What version of Windows SR are you using?

As far as I know, the built-in recognition engine that allows for full command-and-control of Windows has not been updated significantly since roughly Windows Vista. I know that they have a couple of cloud-based solutions right now but looking at it at ATIA just last week, it does not seem terribly well integrated.

Back when it was up-to-date, I did a few experiments dictating side-by-side with Dragon, Windows, Mac etc. Windows was distinctly less accurate than Dragon at the time. And Dragon has been upgraded significantly since then. This is by no means a definitive piece of research, but my impression when trying them has always been that it is less accurate.

It is certainly usable, and the ability to train it can make it more so. But Dragon has always been much more accurate "out-of-the-box".

Yikes- good to know about Dragon for Mac!

Ed, I’m wondering about what you find not accurate in Windows SR? I’ve had only great reviews with my peeps with it so far- including someone who continues to run her tax business through it exclusively.

FYI Dragon for Mac was discontinued as far as I know.  I know the link below works but per this, it is no longer supported.  http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27843/~/dragon-professional-for-mac-6%3A-end-of-life%2C-end-of-support-dates

Windows SR is OK in my opinion, but just OK.  Accuracy is not as good, and if you are using the cloud dictation, nowhere near as much for commands is available.  If I was on windows I would want to do Dragon…

Yeah, unfortunately voice commands on Apple products aren't quite as robust as we need! You can do a teeny bit more than just dictation- like editing a bit, which you can check out here:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203085

Windows has a much more robust speech recognition system built in- it's honestly pretty great!

You can always add the Dragon Naturally Speaking software to a Mac to build up what commands you can do with your voice, but if a user is super-high tech, maybe just double check with the support line that it will be able to do everything they need. For instance, I had a user who was having some trouble with some Excel commands in the Mac version.

Hi all,
I am looking for the best options for using voice control on iMac for a pal without use of hands but no bulbar symptoms.

Also, I need a crash course on voice controls in general-this may be broad, but does anyone have any resources or recommendations?
