Hi Cindi-If he has head movement, then he would be MUCH better off (and faster) using a head mounted laser....Here is a video of someone using a laser with a large core vocabulary board... She has vey limited head movement, but because of the distance of the board she is able to easily use it.If you have any questions about using lasers, please feel free to contact me.Sincerely,On Monday, June 24, 2019, 05:48:47 AM PDT, Cindi <xxxxxx@comcast.net> wrote:Yes he has head movement.

Subject: Re: eyegaze systemsHi Cindi-Quick question.... Does he have any head movement at all? If so, he may be able to use a laser, which can be a lot faster than the methods previously mentioned.MargaretOn Sunday, June 23, 2019, 07:58:32 PM PDT, Cindi Petito <xxxxxx@comcast.net> wrote:Hello everyone-
I have a friend who is an OT in Houston, TX who is helping gentleman with advanced ALS and who is in ICU currently. He is only able to communicate with eye blinking and does not have an AAC device. We are looking for something low tech to allow him to communicate better and more effectively. Anyone have recommendations?
Thank you!

The concerns noted by all the respondents are absolutely valid. The one thing I have to add is an objective way of comparing devices and data. I think that most of the people on this list-serve have at least seen my Communication Needs Questionnaire, which promotes data-driven evaluations. I am working with a pALS who says she wants the top of the line equipment and is not concerned about cost. She presently uses a Mac.
Thank you for your suggestions!
