Hi all,

Will hopefully soon be providing a feature match comparison of Independence drive with different eye tracking technologies.

Per Amanda’s comment about the ‘glitch’, I shared this video a few months ago and the key is to switch to independence drive through windows control.   As Amanda indicated, if it is built in, it can be a challenge requiring a re-start.     It is is open with desktop control and then one switches between communication and drive through widows control, that issue is avoided.

Hello-

It is so cool, right? I have been working to learn about it up here as well!

Our Permobil ATP has been working pretty closely with Evergreen to learn about and integrate the I Drive. Per him, they only have the rights to integrate it with Tobii eye tracking cameras so far, but they do have the ability to pair it with other systems. They are working on being allowed to move forward with those other systems.

So far, though, I have seen it work with Tobii's built-in eye gaze cameras as well as their external cameras on the Surface Pro.

I have seen it funded successfully through Medicare here in Oregon 3x now, and it sounds like you are right in that it should be fundable through all insurance as an alternate drive system. I think the hard part is finding an ATP who knows about it to try it and eval for it?

One glitch they are working on now is that if a button is built to open I Drive through Communicator 5, when they exit back out of I Drive, they loose eye tracking and have to restart. There is kind of a work around with Windows Control, but it has been a teeny bit wonky.

So cool!

Subject: Evergreen Eye Tracking Wheelchair Control Quesstions

Hi,
I am so excited about the Evergreen Eye Tracking Wheelchair Drive system.  I just tried it and it worked really beautifully.  I would love to coordinate with our clinic's PT and OT to have it ordered for many of my clients who use eye tracking SGDs.  I was told it can be added to the Tobii systems but I was wondering how it might integrate with systems for clients who use other brands of eye tracking SGDs.  Does anyone have any info on this? Also, our wheelchair folks seem to think we shouldn't have a problem funding the Evergreen since it is just an alternate drive system.  Are people seeing this system being funded by Medicare, Medicaid/Medi-Cal and other insurance?  Also, has anyone created a macro to bring up a rear view camera?  I think Evergreen is developing this and also an onscreen pause-screen button.  These were the two things I felt like the system needed but otherwise it was surprisingly easy to use.

Sincerely,

Amy Roman, MS, CCC-SLP
