Yes, I have seen this too. The DME face to face visits are of course somewhat different than regular office visits. Neither the website nor me just calling Medicare gave me more info on the F2F issue specifically. My suppliers are still saying F2F only in person from what they can tell.

Here’s the latest info on telehealth coverage from Medicare.

Medicare has temporarily expanded its coverage of telehealth services to respond to COVID-19.

Medicare beneficiaries can temporarily use telehealth services for common office visits, mental health counseling and preventive health screenings. This will help ensure Medicare beneficiaries are able to visit with their doctor from their home, without having to go to a doctor's office or hospital, which puts themselves and others at risk.

If you have an existing healthcare appointment, or think you need to see your doctor, please call them first to see if your appointment can be conducted over a smartphone with video capability or any device using video technology, like a tablet or a laptop. For some appointments, a simple check-in over the phone without video capabilities may suffice.

Important: If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as a cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider immediately.

Remember: Medicare covers the lab tests for COVID-19. You pay no out-of-pocket costs.

Does AAC have the same face to face MD visit requirements as power wheelchairs and respiratory equipment? Medicare at this moment, does not accept virtual visits of any kind for a face to face visit for that sort of DME, and I was just wondering about funding and advocacy efforts nationwide to get Medicare to relax this for now.

Thanks for any info, Amber

Hi all,

Here at Eyegaze Inc. (formerly LC Technologies) we are developing a procedure to manage remote Eyegaze Edge evaluations.  We will arrange for deliver of a fully sanitized system to the pALS’ home, and coordinate the assessment via TeamViewer and Face Time, utilizing a family member or caregiver to be the Eyegaze rep’s “hands” on-site. The SLP will be able to observe and direct via Face Time.

We have been managing  remote trials and training for years, primarily in countries where we don’t have a rep. We’re also knowledgable about proper disinfection of equipment, which we utilize when we take Eyegaze Edge systems into hospitals. We’ll follow the same procedures when we send a system to someone’s home.

For now, we’re only offering this option to pALS, who typically learn how to use Eyegaze easily, and often have an immediate need.  If you have a client with a different diagnosis, please call or email.  We’ll decide if it’s feasible to do this with clients with other diagnoses on a case-by-case basis.

All the best,

Nancy Cleveland

Hi,

We are all struggling to find ways to provide services to our very vulnerable population right now.  Here is an update from ASHA that I wanted to bring to the attention of people on this list.  While it is not an expansion of telepractice to finally include allied health professionals as telepractice providers, which is what we ultimately need and must keep working on, it is a modest opening to get some sustainable/billable non-face to face care to our patients.
