Colleagues,

I am hoping one of you have experience with microphones and has suggestions that I can send to this writer.  Does anyone have a preferred ambient noise microphone?  Or have other recommendations for this situation?

Thanks,

Alisa

Hello Alisa,

My name is Carol  and my grandson, who is 21, has early-onset ALS.  It was caused by a mutation on the FUS gene .  His ALS has hit a plateau and he can’t move his body at all, but he still has movement in his head, he can breathe with some assistance, and he can still speak and eat.  He uses an iPhone and a headset with a mic to give the phone commands.  The problem is that his voice is weak, and when he tries to issue a command to his iPhone, the mic picks up the ambient voices in the room and responds to them instead of to my grandson.  Is there some headset/mic combination you can recommend that is sensitive enough to pick up his voice and not the voices around him?

Are there any businesses or organizations that work with these assistive technology problems?

Any suggestions or referrals would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you,
