Hi,
Thanks for the great responses.  Ray, you may have solved the problem directly.  We will try that.  Daniele, I need to use more desktop shortcuts for my clients who use Windows control so thanks for that reminder, and James, your work arounds were exactly what I thought I might use if there was not a direct solution.  Thanks to each of you!

Hello,

I ran into a similar problem with legacy yahoo accounts and some other email accounts with local cable providers.  The problem is caused because email providers are making it tougher to use the less secure POP3 protocol that Tobiidynavox is still using.  Generally the fix is to go into the email settings and turn on "allow access to less secure apps," but it doesn't appear that all AOL accounts have that setting.

AOL does have a way to make temporary passwords for less secure third party apps though.  It is listed under the AOL user's page under account info then account security setting towards the bottom.  You just have to select "other app" name it something like "tobiidynavox" and then use that new password it gives you in the communicator 5 email settings.

I didn't have an AOL account, but I created a new one and was able to receive emails using that password in communicator.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Thanks,

One other thought, similar to James’ first point, for users who like to use Windows/desktop control! They can create a ‘shortcut’ icon on the Windows desktop that links directly to the AOL email account. Once they use the double-click function on the shortcut, it’ll bring them right to their AOL email account. Always helpful to make sure they adjust the settings to ‘Remember Me’ for their email and password so they’re not having to type it in each time (as long as this isn’t a privacy concern for them).

Hi Amy,

I've run into this as well with eye gaze users who have AOL/Verizon email addresses and have run into difficulty in connecting to Grid 3's email application.  Other email providers (Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook, etc.) have been fine, but AOL/Verizon has been tricky.

In these cases we have the person go one of two possible directions: 1) Instead of using the Grid 3 app, simply navigate to your AOL/Verizon email via the web browser.  Or 2) Create a Gmail account that you can forward all of your emails from your AOL/Verizon account.  Then connect this new Gmail account to the email application in the communication software. Could this work with Communicator 5?

That's one work around that I know of. I'm curious if any other Grid 3 users have a different work around.

Subject: AOL work around

Hi,

I have had to open up security settings on many of my client's email providers to enable them to continue to receive and send emails from within their communication software.  I currently have a patient working with, believe it or not, AOL.  According to the family tech support at Tobii has been called 4 times and they could not figure out how to get his Communicator email,  which stopped receiving email, to work.  He can still send.  Has anyone figured this one out with AOL?  Thanks.
