I wanted to know that there is a feature in brain fingers where you can use EMG, but I don’t think your client has enough muscle movement to activate that.

There is another Signal that can be detected with brain fingers called EOG, which is I movement within the eyesocket. I have one client that we tried this for and it was successful.  It is very fiddly  to set up, and the owner of brain finger sometimes makes things more complicated than it needs to be.

Hi-

I trialed Brainfingers with a client who had ALS about 12-13 years ago.... Brainfingers uses biofeedback techniques.  My client was a yoga teacher, and had an extensive background using biofeedback, but she had no success at all using Brainfingers.

Hi Jen!

Have you looked into Brain Fingers? I haven’t personally used it with a patient yet, but several of my colleagues have, and they shared that it works beautifully! Hope this helps. 😊

Have a great weekend!

Subject: sEMG or piezoelectric switch recommendations?

Hi Everyone,

Looking for recommendations for a switch to pick up small facial movements for eyebrow elevation or lip retraction. I have a young man with a Tobii Dyanvox I-12+ whose eye movement is so limited that he is unable to use eye tracking. He has no limb or head/neck movement, is trached/vented and lives at home with family. I’d like to see if he can use switch scanning with his I-12+, and I’m thinking an sEMG or piezoelectric switch might work.

I don’t have an OT or ATP working with me on this one, though I’m trying to locate someone in the area who could assist. The patient lives in Massachusetts near Providence, RI.

Appreciate your suggestions! Have a great weekend!

Thanks,
Jen
