I had a question from a colleague about alternative drive controls for wheelchairs.  If anyone has an input, please share!!!

I am looking to other seating professionals as to what the current philosophy is on prescribing drive controls for persons with ALS. Knowing the progression we are facing what type of set-up is prescribed at the initial evaluation. (If they can operate a joystick is that all they receive?) What are the alternative drive controls considered when they can no longer operate a standard joystick, head array? mini joystick? Fiber optics? Scanning? Is an alternative set-up considered even when they can still use a joystick?
