Via IR signals using the SGD?  No idea if you can interface that.

The Progress Star lets you control IR using a USB IR Emitter.  There are also a few other options through places like smarthome and Antoinette addressed RJ Cooper..  They all would work with a plug in USB to IR transmitter of some kind.  The progress start in particular should work to control the GEWA.  I do not know if you could get the software to interface with the built in IR on the SGD but you can always just use the hardware that is sold with it…

I know you say a long story…  But to add a thought.  You can make a page in Dynavox software that could function like a GUI from the desktop (using MLB pages for example).  And then assign behaviors to those buttons to use the IR from device?  Seems like less fuss…

Subject: access to an IR phone from a Dynavox

I know someone out there knows the answer to this.  A pALS is using a Dynavox (undedicated device with eyegaze access).  He can access the phone pages on the series 5 software and dial the GEWA phone.   However, he needs to be able to access the infrared phone directly from the desktop.  It is a long story.   Is there a program (haven't found one yet) that he can download and access  (dial/answer) the phone?
Thank you for any suggestions.
