If you haven’t already done so, please try to help with the advocacy effort to get Medicare to change their policies regarding SGDs. We need your voice to speak for those whose communication is limited. As it stands now, Medicare policies on SGDs restrict clients from being able to use their communication device to call for help, get text alerts (e.g., emergency services), email a healthcare provider or family member, lock/unlock their doors, control lights/fans, or use  the internet to connect with insurance providers. Communication is a human right that should be accessible to all, even those who need AT.

This goes beyond Medicare, because other insurance providers (both public and private) often look to Medicare to set the standard. If we don’t change these policies, there is every reason to suspect that other insurers will follow their lead. Please take action, if only to share with others. Spread the word however you can.
