Hi Alisa-

This is probably out of his price range, but I thought I would put it out there:

PageBot (Switch Adapted Kindle, from Origin Instruments)

http://www.orin.com/access/pagebot/

If he already has a laptop, a relatively inexpensive solution would be to download Kindle or some other eBook program.

Use one of those switch adapters that allow you to plug in and program multiple switches.  Then, program one switch to be page forward, and the other to be page back.

(You can also use a macro program like Macro Express to set it up so that hitting one switch simulates the keyboard command for “page forward”, and the other switch is “page back”)

(This is old skool, but many years ago, I downloaded Microsoft Reader for a client, and set him up with macros on EZKeys (he was a scanner)  so that typing “aa” would take  him a page forward, and typing “ee” would take him a page back.)

Fellow listservers:

Anyone know if Dragon will help with the situation below?  If the person had the Kindle app in their computer, would Dragon control the functions on the Kindle app? I haven't tried that so thought I would ask...

Thanks,

I hope this email finds you well.  I just had a quick question for
you.  I have a patient who is quadrapalegic, but still has good speech
and use of his head.  He enjoys reading on his Kindle, but does not
have the use of his hands to turn the pages, so he must have his wife
help him.  He uses books on tape, but misses the ability to read on
his own.  The family was wondering if there was any type of device
(Kindle, iPad) that was voice activated, where he could simply say
"turn page" or "page back".  We discussed a headmouse also, but he is
a hospice patient, so it complicates him being assessed for and
receiving new devices.  Please let me know if you are aware of
anything that could assist this family.  Thank you for your time!
