This behavior, where some amount of the previous dwell time accumulated on a button is preserved when the user’s cursor moves back to it, is included in the (mouse) Pointer access in Grid3.

Bruce

Thanks, Amy. I appreciate it.
If anyone knows if it's available on Dynavox or any other system, I would love to hear about it.

Hi Bruce and others,
In the past I used a cumulative dwell setting in which even if your gaze leaves the button for a moment, when it returns it picks up where it left off in completing
the required time. In other words the dwell does not start from zero each time they lose the target and return. I don't have devices in front of me. Do people know if this setting is available or is the default for any software? That was helpful for some
clients.

Many years ago, one of the mouse dwell selection programs had an adjustment for “jitter distance”, the area
around a target that the user’s mouse cursor could remain and still recognize with higher accuracy where they wished to select. I think it sensed when they were holding the cursor in a specific area—even though it may keep moving a bit—and then assumed the
localized movement was around a location in the middle of that space.
