I have used the Eyegaze Edge to evaluate several pALS.  I recommended the Eyegaze Edge for one pALS who purchased it with the best eye gaze results I have seen in my career.  here is a link to a youtube video of Curt using his eyegaze edge (he passed away a few months ago)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpHUF8lEgJI&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

We had challenges in connecting to his own PC, so he used The Grid software to do everything from surfing the net to email to netflix to texting and everything in between.  he used the LC technologies proprietary software for communication, which you will see in the video.  Since I had limited experience w/the SGD at the time, Nancy Cleveland came out to assist me in setting up the client, and they provided very good tech support.

I have also recommended it for another pALS who is a dedicated Mac user.  We were able to connect it to his Macbook and he had full control of it.  That particular client decided he wanted to go on using his hand as long as possible, so no purchase has been made.

If the person wants to use other computer functions besides communication, they either need to use some other software such as The Grid, or they need to connect to a 2nd computer.  Both are viable options and there are benefits and drawbacks to both.  I will say that in general, people who have tried the Eyegaze Edge have been able to utilize dwell selection at a faster overall rate than most of the other systems I have tried.
