If you're interested in learning more please reach out to me directly (no need to spam the group) and we can set up a call or something, or feel free to try the app out for yourself at
. All feedback is welcome, I'd love whatever response/input you're willing to send my way!
The goal with CoughDrop is to create something that is more open and adaptable than a lot of AAC apps that are out there right now. To try to make that happen, it's not just a SGD, but also a repository of communication boards that anyone can create and share and reuse. It's an HTML-based app so it'll work on computers, tablets, phones, etc. but you'll need a modern web browser that supports TTS in order to get voice output (most do nowadays). I've been testing it on a Nexus 7, an iPad Mini and a Microsoft Surface 1. On the desktop I've been using Chrome and Safari, though Firefox and IE should work as well. The app generally runs well, though I still find glitches to fix up every now and again :-).
In addition, there are built-in (optional!) reporting and communication tools to help inform the team around the individual and help everyone know what is and isn't working (always looking for feedback here on what data points are valuable/helpful).
The app takes a minute to load the first time, since it's basically downloading all the resources much like you would if you were installing the app from an app store. If you load it in your browser on Android or iOS it's possible to add an icon to the home screen and even run it in kiosk mode, you should see instructions for doing that once you register.
Registration is free without any lite-version restrictions, and will stay free for the beta period. After that I'm happy to compensate any helpful hands with more free-ness. I've already sat down with around 25 SLPs, AT specialists, parents, etc. trying to get a good start on this thing, but I'm always looking for more feedback from a fresh set of eyes :-).
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are interesting in getting involved.
Thanks again!
