The ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter leads the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. We’re a small team with a giant dream and we’re looking for someone who wants to have an immediate impact!

 

We have a wonderful opportunity for a part-time Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist. AT Specialists will provide comprehensive and professional assistive technology services as it relates to augmentative and alternative communication, computer access and environmental control to people with ALS, their families and caregivers in Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County, MD.

 

AT Specialists work collaboratively with the Chapter Care Services Staff to:

·         Evaluate ALS patients for assistive technology

·         Provide equipment and training

·         Communicate Chapter services and resources

Qualifications:

·         Assistive Technology experience required.

·         Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Rehabilitation Engineering or other assistive technology related field.

·         ATP certification preferred, but not required.

·         Ability to work independently; must be a self-starter.

·         Possess knowledge of the speech and assistive technology problems specific to ALS patients and knowledge of the types and variety of communication and assistive technology devices available.

·         Possess knowledge of community resources in augmentative communication/assistive technology and develop relationships with those agencies and individuals.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·         Possess strong program development, implementation and time management skills.

·         Significant computer skills to assist patients with computer access needs.

·         Must be able to travel and to work nights and/or some weekends as required.
