Amy, great content!!  I have an article on my blog about Power Wheelchair Care that dovetails nicely with this content: https://improveability.wordpress.com/2012/04/26/power-wheelchair-care/

These are tips I put together after many years of running a loan closet for an  ALS Chapter.  I realized that we were giving people these complicated pieces of equipment with only the basic of instruction.  After having to replace expensive batteries a couple times after the patient went on vacation, leaving the chair uncharged - I started putting together a basic care sheet.

Subject: New Article: 5 Power Chair Features Necessary for People with
ALS

Hi Listserv,
I go out to homes so frequently and find people with their arms hanging past armrests, chairs that don't tilt or recline, and without a headrest or decent seat. I asked our occupational therapist Melody Fung to make a list of the power chair features necessary for people with ALS. These are features that are typically covered by insurance. It is hard to advocate for yourself, a client, or loved one when you have no idea what is available or appropriate. I hope this list helps families. Please add your comments if we missed something that you would recommend. Enjoy the weekend.
