If someone needs a keyboard-based SGD, I'm showing the Lightwriter vs Allora2. If your client lives in California and has telecommunications needs, you can use the DDTP program as payor of last resort. They have covered Lightwriters for me in the past and they are processing two Lightwriter requests now.
For ambulatory bulbar-onset pALS, we discuss modifiying their exisiting smartphones or tablets, keyboard-based SGDs and tablet-based SGDs. There are so many options available for this population.
What is your preferred speech generating device for a PALS who has bulbar onset and is ambulating?
I used to recommend the Lightwriter SL40 quite a bit, but last I heard insurance isn’t covering those anymore or they’re no longer being manufactured? Thoughts on this?
I have a patient right now actually (in 5 minutes) who is bulbar onset and looking for a recommendation. I will likely give him a loaner lightwriter for today but looking towards the future what is everyone recommending?
