Just a reminder about a free
webinar, "Social Justice: Accessibility Includes Communication", which is scheduled for November 17th, 2015, at 7:00 PM EST.
Presenter: Barbara
Collier, Speech-Language Pathologist and Executive Director, Communication Disabilities Access Canada
Facilitator:
Sarah Blackstone, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
USSAAC Committee: Lateef
McLeod (Chair), Sarah Blackstone, Lisa Timm, Wendy Quach
Abstract:
Accessibility legislation protects the rights of people with disabilities to full and equal access to goods and
services. While some disability groups are clearly benefiting from this legislation, many people with complex communication needs (CCN) continue to experience significant barriers when accessing businesses and organizations in their communities. This webinar
will provide an overview of the communication access requirements of people with CCN and discuss social justice issues and implications for policy makers, legislators, businesses, organizations, and people who have CCN.
Learning Outcomes: Participants
will learn about
-
communication access as a social justice issue within human rights legislation;
-
implications for policy makers and legislators; businesses and organizations; and the AAC community;
-
an ongoing Canadian strategy to promote awareness of communication access;
-
available resources and networking opportunities.
