Hi Antoinette,

This is a response I received from one contact.  I included his contact information in the event you would like to touch base with him.  Best of luck!

Hi Ann, good to hear from you.

If I understand this question, and to be honest I am not sure I do, the P10 cannot use screen touch as a button selection or click with eye gaze. But that I mean  that the screen is acting as a large switch so that A TOUCH AT ANY PLACE ON THE SCREEN IS THE SAME AS A SWITCH INPUT for selection. And this is not a strategy that I think anyone would ever wish to do. More on this in a second, as it is an important distinction. The P10 can do an external switch using a switch interface for click/selection however.

The P10 can respond to direct select without using eye gaze just like any other touch screen does. So if a person touches a button on the screen and the Communicator software is set to direct selection it will activate that button. I am not certain, but I think this is what the person is asking. In other words the person is using direct touch to access and not eye gaze.

In the former example where the touch screen acts as a switch, I think this would mean he person would use eye gaze to localize on a button and then touch the screen to select that button? If the person could touch the screen then I would question whether they even needed eye gaze. Not only that but the ideal range for eye gaze is usually at arm’s length (18-24”) making it difficult for a person with limited UE function to reach and touch the screen.

Maybe you could try getting a little better clarification of exactly what the person is asking for?

And I am afraid the comment about lateral eye movement does not connect for  me at all. We do have a page set where the keyboard is laid out horizontally for a person with only lateral eye movement. It is awkward to use, but it is available and better than not being able to use a device at all.

Subject: MyTobii - display as switch

I know you can do this with the LC Tech System, but can you make the screen a switch with the MyTobii P10?  This is for someone who has been using the device, but now has only lateral eye movement?

Any other ideas welcome.
