I think you are going to run into a problem with using the mic inside the BiPap Mask.  There is air running in and out, and that is probably going to cause too much noise to make sense.  I think that the jack on the Chattervox is a standard mic jack.  I am sure a trip to Radio Shack would provide some alternatives.  There are directional microphones that may be able to be positioned to pick up his voice better.  Also, noise cancelling microphones that may filter out ambient noise.

I am not a mic expert, but I am sure you could purchase a better mic from a third party.  Also, mic positioning can make a difference.  He may need to use a gooseneck mounted mic that is set to the side to not get all of the air from the BiPAP blowing on it.

Just my thoughts…

Subject: voice amplifier with bipap mask

I have a family who called today regarding their Chattervox. The patient is still verbal (voice weakening), but has no use of hands/arms/legs. He also wears his BiPap 24/7.  He is concerned that it is becoming harder to understand his speech, especially since he has to use the Chattervox through his BiPap mask. They are wondering if there is a stronger mic—or one that can be used within the mask.

Does anyone have suggestions for a stronger mic or one that can be used with a bipap mask?

Thanks
