Subject: RE: [Assistive Technology] phone access for Eyemax user

Hello,

I consulted our local DynaVox Representative in SE FL, she offered the following:

[The VMax can make and receive calls. The PALS will need either an infrared phone (which can be acquired through the states Telecommunications Relay program; or a “Phone It” device that we sell (it uses a cord, though). I recommend the first choice. The software in the VMax is already set up to sync with one of the phones that the Telecommunication Relay provides (Gewa or Jupiter models provided in FL)].

I would assume that the local Dynavox Representative would be able to go right to your PALS home to assist in setting this service up (as this is a service that our reps. provide in SE FL).  Hope this helps, thank you.

Subject: [Assistive Technology] phone access for Eyemax user

Hi everybody,

I am working with a PALS who would like to independently make and receive phone calls using her Vmax/Eyemax system.  I helped her get a Clarity RC-200 remote-control speakerphone (provided free through our state telecommunications access program), thinking that the Vmax would be able to learn the IR command from the phone’s remote.  However, when I tried it, the Vmax gave an error message that said something like, “No valid IR command detected.”  I called Dynavox tech support, but they weren’t able to help.  Clarity tech support told me it was a problem with the Vmax.

Does anyone know how to set up an RC-200 with a Vmax?  The RC-200 has channel settings that can change the IR signal, and I wondered if that might help, but I have no idea what settings to use.

Do you have any other suggestions to allow this person to use the phone independently?  I installed Skype on her system and showed her how to use it, but she doesn’t seem to like it and hasn’t used it at all.  If the RC-200 doesn’t work out, I am planning to ask the telecommunications access program if they will provide her with a PhoneIT.  I would appreciate any suggestions for other options.

Thanks!
