Dear MDA Clinic Directors and Clinic Team
Members:
Like many institutions across the country, the economy
has had a profound impact on MDA’s fundraising efforts resulting in
one of the most challenging years in the Association’s 59 year
history and necessitating changes to our Health Care Services
Program. The attached memo from MDA President and CEO Jerry
Weinberg has been sent to families served by the Association, notifying
them that -- effective January 1, 2010 -- MDA will no longer assist
with the purchase of wheelchairs, leg braces and communication
devices. Be assured that MDA is eager and prepared to help
families in every way possible by continuing to provide equipment through
our equipment loan program and by connecting them to alternative resources
at the federal, state and local levels.
The decision to make these changes was not an easy one,
but ensures that MDA is able to continue to fund promising research and to
help as many people as possible through the multiple services that
we’ll continue to provide – such as clinic, an equipment loan
program, equipment repairs, support groups, summer camp, educational
events, flu shots, and more. Please feel free to contact me with any
questions.
Regards,
Valerie A. Cwik, MD
