Hi Erin,
If you want to receive a loan from the Greater Bay Area ALSA Lending Library then let Caroline know if you have a VMax that has the specs to run an eyegaze accessory.  If not then you may want to suggest your patient donate his VMax to the library and receive a loaner VMax/EyeMax.  We have  5 or 6 EyeMaxes in our library so Caroline would be able to let you know if one is available or if your patient will need to be on the wait list.

Hi Erin-

You might want to double check that the Vmax you have has the specs to run an EyeMax add-onâ (some of the earlier ones donât have enough memory to run the EyeMax)

Should not be a problem so long as you have an EyeMax Loaner?  The âcameraâ portion of the EyeMax can be removed, and reconnected to another VMax.  Some âinitializationâ necessary for the VMax and âcameraâ to talk to each otherâbut should be doable.  You end up with a working âVMaxâ in the loan closet until the âcameraâ is returned.

Best,

Ben Lieman

Subject: Looking for loaner

I am wondering if anyone has had luck getting just the âeye gazeâ portion of the Eyemax as a loaner before.

I have a PALS patient in ICU right now that already has a DynaVox Vmax but can no longer access it via his head mouse because of a decline in head and neck movement. He only has medicare and is getting placed in a subacute home upon discharge so getting funding for the eyemax may not be feasible.

Iâd love to get him a loaner EyeMax accessory if possible to allow him to communicate. They do not have funds to purchase one out of pocket or pay the copay.

Any suggestions welcome please.
