Hi
, A few months back there were some emails going around asking
about the Keyboard Communicator by AffordaSpeech. I got
a trial with it and here is what I found.
-Very light and very easy to use as well as
program & recall phases. -Voice is Dectalk so not wonderful
but functional. -It turns on immediately unlike netbooks (another
inexpensive option for out of pocket payers). -It comes with a
small LightWriter size keyboard but any size keyboard can be attached since
the device is really just a 5"X2.5" box. The box features a
message window and speaker as well as a USB port (for the keyboard) and an
on off switch. -AfordaSpeech does not process insurance
for this item. I would definitely consider
it for someone paying out of pocket since it is about $825. It would
also be good for lending libraries who need a few devices to get
started. MDA would cover it too (but then all the MDA
communication grant money would be gone if the person needed help with a
co-pay later). It was hard figuring out who was
carrying it so let me give folks the name of the vendor who was kind enough
to lend it to me.
