Hello all,
A fellow speech therapist called me this morning to inquire about the
most appropriate AAC device for one of her patients. The patient is a
43-year old male with profound sensorineural hearing loss, speech
impairment, and is legally blind. She explained
that he has been using a device called a “SideKick”. I am not
familiar with this device but after doing a little search it sounds like it
might be a PRC device but I don’t see any literature on it on their
website.
Apparently the device is constantly malfunctioning and has had to be
sent it for repair many times. They would like to explore a more suitable
device. I have worked with Auditory scanning for patients with visual
impairment but never someone who also has
such a profound hearing loss.
Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks.
