Christine,

There was a lot of discussion among us about a year ago about the audeo.  I do not have any first hand experience, but suffice to say that you should tread lightly.  Also, patient’s families should be very wary of anyone asking them to pay out of pocket for an unproven device.  From what I understand, the device is reading EMG (muscle) movement – regardless of what their website says.  We all know that ALS affects the muscles, so this device should be approached with a HEALTHY dose of objective investigation.

I know that Joy Meacham of the St. Louis Chapter and Betts Peters of the Evergreen Chapter have had actual conversations with the company and/or patients who have tried it.  You may want to talk to them for more specifics.

Subject: The audeo device

The spouse of an ALS patient in Florida inquired about the availability of the audeo communication device. Does anyone have information about the availability of the audeo machine?

Thank you.
