Hi Alisa, I have tried it and one of our
patients is
currently using it successfully. We purchased one from Neural Signals
before
they were available from Ablenet (the “Libertas” and Impulse
switch
are one in the same). I would encourage you to check out the FAQs and
support docs on their site for more info: http://www.emgswitch.com/.
Not sure if Ablenet has made as much available.
Set up was fairly easy. I was
able
to activate it with tiny muscle contractions on my neck, arm and hand
adjusting
the thresholds within the software to recognize movement that could just
barely
be seen. Our patient activates his by raising his eyebrow (electrode
placed on his forehead). He uses it to access communication software
on a
tablet PC and to alert his caregivers at night. Prior to getting one,
we
emailed back and forth a bit with another user who wrote a testimonial on
the
site above. This is what he had to say: “The Libertas is
phenomenal. It by far the best switch interface I have ever used. I urge
you to
use the current technology. I have worked with Neural Signals since they
began
developing their EMG switch technology. What impresses me the most about
the
Libertas is the lightening fast interface and sensitivity. I am scanning
accurately at .15 of a second and it possible to decrease the threshold
that
visible muscle movement is not necessary to activate the
switch.” Ablenet has a loan program. One
of
our MD patients emailed to ask about it and heard back from David Binczik,
their VP of Operations: “The Loan Program is free of
charge
but we do ask for a valid credit card number for security only. We
will
not charge the card unless we do not receive the Loan equipment back at the
end
of the Loan period. Please feel free to call me if you have any
questions.” Hope that
helps… Happy Valentines
Day! Amy Amy

the
p-switch and was directed to look at this
