From one of my patients using his ipad for
communication: In
his own words…. I like it. Lacking a few bells and whistles that "Speak
It" offers like multiple voices, voices in foreign languages, settings
for
loudness and speed of speech and the ability to create and store custom
words
or phrases but the overall functionality is far superior than anything I've
used. It's simple to use and the pre-programmed words/phrases are
much
easier to utilize. Proloquo2Go has multiple screens you must toggle through
making it difficult to find what you need and Speakit is simple enough but
at
times is annoying due to a button that triggers speech that is easy to hit
by
accident and won't quit until finished. I really like the
"prediction" feature in Verbally
that gives 4 choices of words as you type that are easily
incorporated
into you text. It is much more user friendly than "proloquo2go" which
cost
me $200 and offers some features Speakit doesn't have. I'll go live with it
today. I can see using Speakit for storing jokes or dialogue I would use
on a
sales call (I can store questions or topics I want to use then simply tap
to
speak them but use Verbally for everything else and both are simple.
Speakit is
not free but only cost $3.00. Thanks, I like it
alot. Lisa M. Bruening, M.S., CCC-SLP Patient Services Coordinator The ALS Association phone: 216-592-2572 toll free: 888-592-2572 fax: 216-592-2575 Check out our webpage: www.alsaohio.org As of October 19, 2010 every person living with ALS in the
