Another idea is the Progress Star http://www.zygo-usa.com/ although I don’t remember cost it was much less than the device.

Subject: [Assistive Technology] environmental controls

Hello all,

I think I sent this message to the wrong email address the first time around, so I apologize if you are receiving it for the second time.

I am looking for a software package that will allow a person to control infrared devices with her computer.  It seems like one ought to be able to buy some USB add-on to produce infrared output, and then install environmental control software similar to what is found on SGDs.  If an SGD can do it, why can’t a laptop?

I have looked around on the internet and even called a home automation company, but the programs I’ve found are very basic (mostly intended to turn the lights on and off when you’re on vacation).  I’m new to the AT field, so maybe I just don’t know where to look.  Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
