When I was at the NY chapter we did not have any iPads, but we did have a couple Netbooks. (Do you remember 2 years ago when that was the rage - my how fast technology is changing!)

Our normal loan agreement was open ended, but for these devices I put a two week term on them. I would also include a return label with the shipment to make return as easy as possible.

Also, I would have a firm conversation with the contact person letting them know this was just for trial and that they needed to return it quickly.

I still had to bug the few families that received the equipment to get it back in a timely manner.

So, I think clear communication and follow up with the contact person is key.

I agree that patients should not be putting personal stuff on the device, but they may want to add an email account to try that feature out, which I think would be valid. It is easy enough to restore the device when it comes back.

That's my two cents.

Hi Alisa

I think you have brought up a really valid issue here, as use of the ipad for communication has grown and grown. So far, we loan them and do allow clients to download onto it what ever they wish, because I do want them to get see what the ipad can do for them, for example making use of photos, e-mail, etc,  but I delete any personal info on its return to me.

We certainly do need to consider loan agreements in more depth, other than our generic one for communication aids that we have here, so anyone elseâs experience would be great,

Kind regards

Helen

Subject: iPad agreements

To those AT folks that have purchased iPads and use them as part of a loaner closet...do any of you have a loaner agreement for iPads?  I have a typical DME/AT loaner agreement form but was wondering if any of you did one specifically for iPads?  (like do you or do you not allow personal stuff on them like music, videos, etc...)

If you have developed a loaner agreement for iPads, will you share?

Thanks,

Alisa
