Title: Automatically turn/off laptop using Electronic Adaptive Equipment

Thanks for the information Ed!  I apologize for the delayed response. I am posting on behalf of the OT working in the program 2 days a week.   I looked at the options you offered and we are going to try the Minomech.com product.  This client needs a way to turn a laptop on/off since unable to select the button on the laptop due to reduced fine motor coordination.   This individual was not receptive to having the laptop on throughout the day.  This individual has cognitive and behavioral issues (fairly aggressive and defensive to any suggestions to use adaptive equipment) so the user has difficulty seeing the same goal may be accomplished with keeping the laptop on near by throughout the day.

I appreciate the help.  Thanks,

Are you talking about something like this?

or this?

Could be combined with a wireless switch, but do not know if it would work on a laptop.

Never heard of anyone turning on a computer with X-10.  You can probably work it to turn it off, but it would just cut the power immediately, (not very good for computer.)

Would be helpful for some more background info on the application.  Is it a situation where they cannot just leave computer on?

It probably was a fluke.  (How was it that you could use X-10 to turn on a laptop – I am curious?)

If you could tell the group the make and model of the laptop, that may help with finding a solution.

How do you automatically turn your laptop on/off using electronic adaptive equipment? X-10s worked in one case we had but not another. I am not sure if this was a fluke? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
