People do find the Jay Union hard after a while. Sometimes a Comfort Company M2 or Acta Embrace, or Matrix VI if we want a more basic cushion. If needing a hybrid for pressure relief but the firmer front with transfers, then the Roho Hybrid Elite, Jay Fusion air or gel or the like. Some people need the Roho Quadtro or Jay 2 deep contour later, but don’t want it initially. We’ve had good luck in a couple cases with tailbone pain with the Ride Designs Java.

Really though, a $10,000 cushion can still be pressure. I think we all need to be MUCH better about strongly encouraging regular pressure relief. Especially if we deliver the chair and do the education when they are still standing. When they can’t stand any longer, they are not in the routine of tilt/recline for pressure relief. Also, some people won’t tilt because they cannot breathe, but don’t want the Trilogy/BiPAP during the day. We have been doing a ton of sip-and-puff options for the Trilogy.

Hello,

Asking for one of our wheelchair vendors...

Which power wheelchair cushion(s) is/are most frequently recommended for persons with ALS?

One of our vendors has been using the Jay Union cushion which has not been well tolerated and has been receiving many complaints.

The vendor asked me to survey the other Chapters and AT specialists on this list to see if there is any consensus of other options.

Thanks in advance.

Lisa
