I would STRONGLY recommend that your friend connect with The ALS Association Greater NY Chapter. They have a support group that meets monthly that is very well attended.
Also, I am aware of three ALS clinics in Manhattan - Columbia, Beth Isreal Hospital (ALS Certified), and Hospital for Special Surgery.
I have long standing personal experience with the Beth Isreal clinic and can highly recommend it.
The choice of clinic does depend on what Dr. and team your friend prefers. There is no harm in visiting multiple clinics as they each have their own personality. This is a really important decision and your friend is in the enviable position of have multiple world class institutions to chose from.
That is my two cents.

A friend of a friend has limb-onset ALS and lives in Manhattan. Her speech is unaffected but she could benefit from assistive technology. She is not connected with the ALS support services. I found the ALS NY website with their ATP's contact info. Any
recommendations for a multidisciplinary ALS Clinic? Any other ALS support groups in Manhattan?
Thanks for your help!
