I have the sesame lock - purchased it when it was on the indegogo - it works.  Without the bridge, it is bluetooth connection to the lock.  Very easy to set up and install.

I have mine installed on a french door, so once it opens the lock on my door it will not lock it because of the alignment of the holes.  But, that would be true for any automatic lock.

Amanda,

With the Sesame Smart Lock, can the user also lock the door? Or is it unlock only?

Thx

Thanks for sharing about Housemate- that looks so cool!

I've been learning about Raz Mobility. Here in Oregon, our utilities commission runs an AT loan program and they just started including Raz Mobility devices. I haven't seen one in person yet, but it looks pretty exciting!

I also have recently set up two Sesame Smart Locks for people living on their own to let caregivers or home health professionals in:

And I just had someone tell me about their success with Open Sesame- an Android device control app that uses the front facing camera. I saw them in person with their phone, and it looked pretty seamless!!

We use this a lot and really like it and have been using it since its first version was launched. It was based on the technology in the ClicktoPhone . The device can be configured for iOS or Android and can easily be switched between the two. I really like the 5-way switch input that allows wheelchair joystick to control the device via an IO module. For Android this gives full cursor control and for iOS it given up to 8 functions via joystick/multi-switch control and on this basis is a great combined iOS interface/environment controller, in particular. Also I really like that it comes with an Easywave transmitter, which allows us to share peripherals between Housemates and Smartbox Gridpads. It also has a built in relay for switching external devices and this and the Easywave transmitter can be operated even if the connection to the tablet is down. Its Bluetooth is very reliable and you can put the system to sleep to save battery/turn off screen and always wake it up. I have put an system using an Android tablet to sleep for over a week and it has woken up reliably with very little battery drop.

Possum also do the Qwayo, which is  a very good single switch access device but does Android only. What I really like about this is that you have a communications centre that allows you to decide whether a contact will be called via the internal mobile phone or using IR commands to an external IR phone. But it is only Android and does not offer digital joystick input option.

Cheers

Here is the website:

I am still learning all the ins and outs, and the manufacture has made a lot of updates lately, so it has been challenging to keep up with it.

But, I can tell you on an iOS device, you can use switch control to access the items, or you can set it up to listen for voice commands.  The label of the button is the voice command, and when it recognizes the command, it "pushes" that button.  So, for those that want very fine voice control of entertainment systems via voice - this would do the trick.  I have been told it works with OK Google for Android, but I have not tested this myself yet.  For the voice commands, you would need to be connected to the internet as it is using Siri, but for touch or switch access no internet is needed for IR or Zwave control.

Can you expand on the Housemate a little more? Is is voice activated? Switch activated?

Great idea Alisa,

Two things that I have been recommending lately are...

this wheelchair USB charger:
- relatively inexpensive and clients love it - we have had EADL systems that cost over $10,000, and this $50 item is their favorite!
- it can charge a phone or power an Amazon Echo dot.

Also, I have been using the Housemate lately - it is not cheap, but can do a lot of things for people - IR, Z Wave, Mobile Device interface - you could think of it as a Tecla Shield plus.  I am still learning the ins and outs, but it has the potential to serve a number of my clients well.

What’s your favorite new assistive technology gadget(s) for people with ALS?

Let’s start a discussion and get some new information from others.

Thanks
A
