Hi Ann,
This woman is a go getter.  My final recommendation to her was more frequent and longer breaks from eye tracking and I know that is the one thing she won't do.  She will wear a patch on one eye at a time.  She is on her computers all day.

The one switch site we used to have for a call chime is gone now so I will really be challenged to find an alt form of access.  She did see an ophthalmologist who was stumped and gave her the antibiotic which did help when the abrasion became infected.  They don't seem to be starting as infections though.  Her care team is great about applying drops .to attempt to keep her eyes lubricated but I am fairly convinced dryness is at the root of this problem.

One key thing I found out in our post-clinic meeting yesterday is she is on atropine mouth drops.  I plan to email her today and see if she is willing to reduce the atropine, drool a bit more and see eye abrasions decline.  It seems fairly likely the atropine is drying her eyes too.  Maybe we will look at botox for the saliva since it is more localized.

Sincerely,

Hi Amy,

Ouch!  Even just taking a break from eye gaze could be healthy for healing to occur and using a back up accessing method.

Just an idea, has this person seen a Neuro-Ophthalmologist?

Subject: Eye Care for Eye Trackers

Hi,
I'm working with someone who has been eye tracking for years.  She uses LC and EyeMax. She is starting to have regular abrasions of the eye which causes lid to close.  Here are the things we have tried and I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

Patch worn on eye that is having the abrasions Cold (refrigerated) eye moisturizing drops Eye moisturizing gel at night Topical antibiotics Cold compresses Eye rest with closed eyes More frequent volitional blinking
