Assistive Technology Specialist Position Available Now! Please Circulate!
The Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist joins the Institute on Disabilities’ Philadelphia- based AT team implementing Pennsylvania’s Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT) and
related programs. The AT Specialist provides assistive technology-related activities to support individuals with disabilities and their families in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region in the use of a wide variety of assistive technology devices for telecommunication,
computer access, activities of daily living, and communication. The AT Specialist addresses the needs of individuals of all ages with sensory, physical, and intellectual disabilities in a variety of settings (e.g. employment, education, community living)
through device demonstrations, AT trainings, and presentations. Approximately 50% of the position is dedicated to activities as Consumer Educator and statewide coordinator of Consumer Education and Outreach for the Telecommunication Device Distribution Program
(TDDP), conducting program outreach at regional and statewide events such as expos, exhibits and conferences and developing and implementing various strategies to increase public awareness statewide.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a field related to services for people with disabilities and technology). Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) certification (www.resna.org)
or eligibility to obtain the ATP within one year. Equivalent credentials that enable the specialist to conduct fee-for-service activities would also be acceptable.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology devices, for telecommunications; computer access; assistive listening; low vision devices; etc, including knowledge of device features
and set-up functions.
*Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with the internet and MS Office software programs, especially MS Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel.
*Demonstrated presentation skills, and the ability to develop and conduct training
*Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with the ability to work with a diverse constituent population, including persons with disabilities.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Some overnight travel may be required.
*Ability to travel to off-site, regional and state-wide locations that may not be accessible via public transportation.
Preferred:
*Master's degree.
