Hi all,. Related to the ‘double dipping’ model we have launched in cooperation with Acapela, am sending you these link for voice created for three people with ALS who message banked.   All used the Zoom recorder.  One started with a .wav iphone app but then stopped after a few messages as she found that it took too much management.

We have a few who have done this now but so far I have permission from these three to share in video:

1. voice created from message banking for a man from Florida with mild Dysarthria at time of banking:

The first sentence is a novel sentence with his voice and when he viewed the video to give me permission to use, he wrote: “even though I never said it, it sounds alot like me and totally captures my humor”

2   this is for a woman who comes to us from Virginia.  She has a little bit of a southern accent and has mild flaccid dysarthria at time of banking

3   This is a woman from NYC who has mild to moderate Dysarthria at time or banking

All three followed our message banking approach and then files were uploaded to our mymessagebanking.com

Two are now having the SAPI code embedded in their newly acquired speech generating devices so they have both their custom Acapela voice AND all of their authentic message banked messages.   Stay tuned for videos of people using both message bank and voice banking voice integrated into their SGD.

4.  For those who did not hear the voice I created, here it is.  It is a really good example of how we can do nice things with people who start really early, prior to obvious bulbar symptoms.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that John Costello, Chris Gibbons, Trinity Deibert, Daisy Clay and I are providing a hands-on workshop called A Journey with ALS at the ASHA Convention this Saturday from 1:00-3:00 (session HL23).   The Workshops/Labs are new this year and a little hard to find in some of the planners so I thought it might be good to let our AAC groups know about it.

Our workshop will be providing hands-on experience with the technologies we think are essential to pALS.  Of particular interest this year, John will be showing us brand new advances in voice and message banking.  You will learn how your clients can message and voice bank simultaneously.  Chris will be making sure we all know how to install the messages our clients have recorded into their SGDs and even into iOS devices.  I will be introducing a new AlphaCore page set that will come standard on Grid 3 and Grid for iPad that is specifically designed to meet the needs of your clients with ALS and other literate populations.  You may also get a chance to try a device or access methods you have not gotten your hands on yet so be sure to join us if you can.
