If there is an overall power failure, they should have a backup, though I agree in this case it seems reasonable to discharge the battery and run it from a plug when needed. Client and family should be aware of the risks in both directions.

Not my part of the field but do they make portable suction that allows for a diconneccted battery (so a caregiver can reconnect a fully charged one).

Semi related, I know my dad was close to purchasing a marine battery to power his overnight CPAP. Maybe look into that?

Right, so then they can charge it before they leave, or some have a backup battery. It does add another level of stuff to do/remember, but I reached out to the person who is currently doing this in our area, and it is working great for them so far!

People take them out away from home where there is no battery source...

Hi-

I was just chatting about this with one of our genius HH SLPs, and she had a great idea! I haven't tried it yet, but she said it works.

-Get an IR smart plug for the wall outlet
-Drain the battery on the suction machine so it is only getting power from the outlet
-Plug the suction machine into the smart plug and leave it turned 'on'
-Now it can be turned on and off via the smart plug- whether through the remote, or you can of course use the IR controls on most SGDs

I can't wait to try it!

Hi,
Has anyone set up someone with a switch adapted suction machine. Please let me know how you set it up or if you found one that is already adapted.
