RE: Page turners Judge Simon (Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) 08 Dec 2009 14:03 UTC

OR: you could use the new kindle PC software and a switch adaptor to do page up/down...

You could make a more complicated system either using an on-screen-keyboard grid (e.g. SAW for a free option) to scan Page Up, Dn, change book etc or using more swithces...

Not used the kindle software in anger yet, but it appears that it has good keyboard shortcuts, so should work...

Cheers,

Simon

www.saje-tech.com switch adapts the Kindle, (You have to send it to them). Contact them for current prices but I think it was around $400.
You can only do page up and page down, but that is no worse than a page turner.

Origin systems had been developing a prototype, but don't know if they are producing it yet.

Just to further expound, I have developed with some people use of an E-Book on a dedicated computer where the computer stays on all the time and uses 2 switches with macro programming to page up and page down (or one switch for page down or mouseclick on the scroll bar). Winds up being a lot cheaper and more reliable than the page turners I have other wise tried.

Hi Ed,

I hadn't heard of a switch-adapted Kindle before. Would you mind sharing how/where one would make/buy one? Thanks!

Well good luck!

In my experience there are not particularly good/reliable page turners.
The Zygo one is still available but expensive. I had a lot of experience needing to get parts for it.

There is/was a MyTurny, and one other that I just saw that only works with Magazines.

All of these are $1000 or more, or the zygo is at least $3000 or more.

Why not a dedicated computer and/or switch adapted Kindle?

I have a client who wants to use a page turner. She is not interested in computer e-book options. Does anyone have an opinion on which page turner is better, works better, needs fixing less often? Is there an option to use a wireless switch with either of these, she wants to be able to keep the switch on her chair and roll up to the page turner.

Thanks, Shannon
