Hi Jane-
Thanks for writing back- my former client is located in Sacramento, CA.
I'll pass this info on to the SLP who contacted me.
Thanks so much,
Margaret Cotts

BCIs work at a research level, but are still primarily available through
research projects. There are a few other projects besides Wadsworth that
enroll users (including my own). Where is your client located?
It is important to start the person with a BCI before they become
completely locked in. I haven't heard of anyone who can successfully use
a BCI who has lost the ability as ALS progresses, but I have heard of
people who are locked in who haven't been able to learn to use it. Why
that is the case is one of the things we're researching.
There is a commercial BCI available from Guger
Technologies (http://www.gtec.at/). It is called the intendiX. There is
a US distributer at
http://www.cortechsolutions.com/Products/Physiological-data-acquisition/Syst
ems/intendiX.aspx
I haven't had a chance to use it and don't know how well it would work for
someone who was not a researcher or what kind of technical support is
available. The basic design is comparable to what most of us use in our
projects, though.
